Training & Development Guarding

The Bidvest Protea Coin contemporary training academy Gijima, at Wallmannsthal boasts experienced instruction, accommodation, canine and equestrian facilities and a range of training provided to security officers serving the financial, aviation, industrial, retail, residential and mining sectors. The main centre is supported by a further six academies in Gauteng, Kwa-Zulu Natal, Port Elizabeth, PE, Cape Town and Mpumalanga.

We provide continuous and proper training of private security officers that most certainly present a deliberate countermeasure for the collective fight against crime.

The Bidvest Protea Coin Training Academy ensures that not only the minimum standards, as determined by the Private Security Industry Regulatory Act for employment as a security officer in the mining and minerals sector, financial sector, corporate, private business, industrial, residential or national key points, are adhered but also that we provide effective targeted training over and above minimum training requirements.

The academy boasts training curricula for security officers who need to provide specialised security functions at a mine, residential estate, office park or corporate building. It also allows for improving the abilities of security officers providing cash management solutions, such as cash-in-transit services as well as investigations, reaction and technical security services.

Tactical firearm training includes putting officers through their paces during fitness sessions, self-defence, first aid, fire-fighting, advanced shooting simulation software applications and practical competency shooting as required by the Firearms Control Act (Act 60 of 2000). Soft skills’ training is provided and includes computer literacy, customer relations and CCTV monitoring.

When security officers have acquired the necessary personal health and fitness, soft skills and technical skills training they are provided with specialised training. Specialised training includes accredited A to E courses for physical security, dog handling, horse-riding, close protection, aviation security, investigation, mining security, estate security, cash solution management and reaction unit training.

Training is therefore geared to allow security officers to diligently carry out their duties with confidence and with due ability to protect not only the lives and assets of their customers, but also their own lives.
